6. BRAINARD, Joe. Original Collage.
10 x 8 inch original collage/assemblage by Brainard. A layered work: beneath the glass Brainard has put together the cover from “C” Magazine 1: 6, over which he has painstakingly painted the teeth in each mouth, and a photobooth strip of self-portraits with overpainted backgrounds. On top of the glass, he has affixed a rose decal and the raised plastic “Merry Christmas” lettering. The cheap original frame has chipped and oxidized a bit, and there is evidence of some dampstaining to the photostrip and background paper. However, these issues do not detract from the work as a whole. A personal gift to a close friend. $5500

Schuyler titled his 1988 collection FOR JOE BRAINARD. $7500
