The Well.
Waitsfield: Vermont Council of the Arts/The Stinehour Press (1976). First edition. 27 pp. Fine in printed wrappers. A volume in the Vermont Poetry Chapbooks series edited by Hayden Carruth. Painter and visual artist Henrikson’s first, and it seems, only publication in book form, the poems are short lyrics invested with a strong and eccentric sense of repetition, lineation and image: ‘This morning it’s the first/thing in the morning: the grass/is wet, cold, for once I’ve stepped/out onto it. I’ve been blinded/by the sun the sun on each blade,/blinded into believing the dog’s/bone is a snake, its fisted head/in the dog’s teeth. the fire.’
